The members of Sending Ollie Worldwide (SOW)’s Board of Directors left the USA for Kenya on New Year’s Day. Our primary purpose was to have a land dedication ceremony on the site where we plan to build Goshenland Academy & Children’s Home (GACH) in Narok. That objective was met and so much more!! Here’s a few highlights but they don’t come close to telling the story:
- On the first day to our amazement, we saw giraffes throughout Goshenland in addition to zebra, gazelles and wildebeest! As a matter of fact they were all over because our site is in the Masa Mara region of Kenya where the Maasai Tribes live.
- The land dedication ceremony was so powerful as the in-country team and the USA team members walked the 15 acres of Goshenland anointing it and praying after which our sign was erected. To see this over 25 year vision manifesting bought tears to my eyes!! I wanted to just roll on the ground (but they have really large ants and sticky thorn bushes)!! LOL
- We were treated to a Safari at the National Park where we saw elephants, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, lions, an eagle, various birds and so much more. Monkeys were hanging out at the local restaurant!
- We held a village town hall meeting with our soon to be neighbors of the Ilariak Village. After enjoying a delicious goat dinner in one of their Manyattas (home) we shared our plans for Goshenland. They expressed their pleasure at having us as neighbors helping each other then made 2 requests: Explaining that due to age and the wild animals in the bush their children cannot walk the long miles to the nearest school until they are 10 years old therefore they are starting nursery school at 10 years old we were asked to erect a temporary metal 3 room nursery school to begin educating the children while we are working on our capital fundraising building campaign. The other request was that we employ local villagers at Goshenland. A firm believer in community buy in, I was ecstatic and agreed. A few days later we took a carpenter to Goshenland and had him measure out the area for the nursery school campus.
- Another village town hall meeting was held in the Naarosura Village where we distributed beans and rice (courtesy of Water & Education Int’l, WEI, of Vallejo, CA) along with toys for the children. After sharing our plans for the area, the village elder requested that we plant a church on land that he would give stating there is no church anywhere near for the people to attend. Joy again and we agreed!!
- Pastor Ollie did a 3 night revival at Life Mission Christian Church; Team member and SOW treasurer, Pastor Ella Moore conducted a Praise & Worship Seminar; Team member and SOW Vice President, Ann Brown did a praise dance to ‘Break Every Chain’ which the church adopted, playing before every service; SOW secretary, Rakeisha Hill spoke for a Youth Rally and the entire church was still talking about how encouraged they were.
- Thanks to SOW supporters close to 50 local children were treated to a field trip day at the park where they played games, played in a bouncer/jumper, received toys and were served a hot lunch.
